Silent worker. Faithful servant. Loving Mother. These are understatements of the virtues of the 2020 Hermana Mayor of San Jose Placer Parish for Dinagyang 2020.
Kind-hearted. Unassuming. Soft-spoken. Prayerful. These are apt descriptions of this woman who is an epitome of a devotee of Señor Sto. Niño.
Ma’am Emma, as she is fondly called, has served the Child Jesus all her life.
A retired employee of the University of San Agustin, she is an active member and a past President of the Cofradia del Sto. Niño de Cebu-Iloilo Chapter from 2012-2018. Likewise, she serves in various religious organizations such as the Catholic Women’s League, the Cofradia del Sto. Rosario and the AMICI-Friends of St. John Paul II. She was also the Queen Juanna in 2000.
But Ma’am Emma’s relationship with Sr. Sto. Niño is truly personal. She carries with her a genuine family tradition. She is the niece of the late Rev. Fr. Ambrosio Galindez, considered as father of Dinagyang Festival and who founded the Cofradia del Sto. Niño de Cebu-Iloilo Chapter.
She is married to Don Noel Zapanta, 2020 Hermano Mayor, who is working in the United States of America. Their eldest son, Bryan Noel, is representing him. They have two other children, Gerard Leo and Alvin John, and two adorable grandchildren – Jaden Nino and Claire Sinji.
Truly worthy to be this year’s 2020 Hermana Mayor: Dona Emma Galindez-Zapanta.
